Dynamic young nonprofit seeks Data Systems Intern

Type of Position: 10-hour or more per week, unpaid internship in Chicago

Summary of Organization: Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) is an entrepreneurial, Chicago-based international organization that seeks to build a movement of young people creating religious pluralism through cooperative social action and dialogue. The impact of our work and innovation of our methodology have gained us a spotlight in major media and the attention of key world leaders. We’ve been profiled by Good Morning America, NPR, CNN and the BBC, as well as major media in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. We have partnered with such leaders and organizations as the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, the Office of Queen Rania of Jordan, President Bill Clinton, the Council on Foreign Relations, the East-West Institute, the U.S. Department of State and the United States Institute of Peace. Summary of Position: Due to IFYC’s increasing size and reach, we need an energetic, entrepreneurial intern who is interested in information systems to help with IFYC’s data intake and maintenance. The person in this position will guide data flow throughout the organization, oversee data input, strategize for future needs of the organization, and maximize list growth. The ideal candidate has some experience in information systems, a willingness to be creative and take a leadership role in structuring data systems throughout the organization, and an interest in working collaboratively across departments. This intern expected to work in the IFYC office for at least 10 hours per week. This internship is unpaid.
Supervision: Data Systems Intern will directly report to the Vice President of Development.
Responsibilities: Core responsibilities are listed below. Responsibilities may change based on the particular assets of the selected intern and/or changing needs for the program.
· Establish successful data flow between departments within IFYC
· Research and implement solutions to internal data problems
· Optimize growth of IFYC house list
· Oversee data input
· Coordinate other data volunteers
· Act as a liaison to each department based on data needs
· Serve on data team within IFYC

- Technological literacy
- Interest in information systems
- Extremely attentive to detail
- Demonstrated ability to keep well-organized paper and digital files
- Consistently takes initiative and has demonstrated ability to manage time amidst multiple priorities
- Energetic problem solver
- Excellent communication skills
- Flexibility, adaptability to changing environment
- Useful skills: experience with databases, MS Access, and MySQL
While this is an unpaid internship, it offers an excellent opportunity for creativity in information systems technology and working in a collaborative environment. This position is ideal for someone getting started in the field of information systems.
